Memories of the kids when they were young

I've been going through some older pictures this week.   I found these two of my kids when they were probably 11 and 16.   I remember the day well, we went up to the Northland fountain in Kansas City and I took my SLR camera I used at the time and I took lots of pictures of the kids together.
Of course at that age it wasn't always easy to get a brother and sister to pose "nicely" together.
But these two pictures they looked like they might have been liking each other and having fun.  LOL

I've probably scrapped these pictures before or at least other pictures from that days 'photo shoot' but I wanted to get these on a layout instead of just sitting in a box.

I used the Sizzling Summer '16 sketch #5  at "SCRAPBOOK CHALLENGES"  it 1was great for these pictures.    I'm going to do a lot of journaling about my memories of that day before I put it into their joint albums.  They each have single albums of them only and then also an album, or maybe 2
or 3 of them together.

First Ice Cream Cone

When I saw this series of pictures on Instagram of Silas enjoying his first ice cream cone.   I knew they had to go on a layout.

The sizzling summer 16 Sketch #10 at    "SCRAPBOOK CHALLENGES"    was perfect to have three 4x6 pictures.

Here is the sketch.

Together

I had to scrap this picture.  Last week Dad was feeling so bad from Chemo side-effects.    All he dis was lay in bed or on the couch.   It was hard to take this picture but I wanted it because of his dog
Freckles beside him.   When I actually stood up to take the picture Freckles had his head laying over Dad's shoulder but moved when I moved.    But Freckles is Dad's constant companion anytime, but while he was so sick last week he never left his side, literally, was always touching him somewhere.
When Dad got up to go to another room, he literally walked touching his foot each step.

I thought the August 14th sketch at  "THE STUDIO CHALLENGES"  was perfect to show just this
single picture, not a lot of embellishments or anything, just let the picture be the center of attention.

My back ground paper is from the DCWV-Seaside Yacht  stack and the corner papers are from
the Craft Smith - Indigo Gold stack,  then I just used a navy card stock to punch around the
picture.   Then my title are Thickers.

My Foo Fighters Room

I had to order ink cartridges for my photo printer yesterday so any scrapping I do for a couple of days
will be of old pictures that I had printed or were old as these, pre digital camera pictures that had been developed.

When my daughter was a Junior in High School she became obsessed with the Foo Fighters, so this her room that she decorated all in Foo Fighter memorabilia and pictures.    She also worked part time at a paint your own ceramic studio.    She made this pottery bowl, with the names of all the Foo Fighter songs at the time from the first 2 albums that were out on the bowl, the interior is red and the fired it.     My color scheme for this layout is black and red and some gold stars.   The Foo Fighter logo/emblem colors are red and white so that is also what colors she used in her room.    This picture is actually the beginning or decorating, the room, when she was finished, she had done all her bedroom, the jack and jill bath between her room and the guest room and then some extra pictures and stuff made their way over to the guest room also.

So back to the layout,   I used the week 4 sketch at   "LET'S GET SKETCHY"     It worked out great for the pictures I found, I just trimmed down the bowl picture some and it worked great.

Here is the sketch and go to  "LET'S GET SKETCHY"   to see all the details about the challenge.
You still have till the end of the month to enter this weeks challenge and the other weekly challenges for August.

Old Vacation

I really wanted to try this last of the summer challenges at  "THE MEMORY NEST"   but I had to
find a picture.     My photo printer had run of one ink color last week before I went out of town so decided to be cheap and save money and ordered a generic brand instead of the regular Canon ink.
Put the ink in yesterday to print a picture and, the colors are not even close to right, everything had a dull grey look to it.    So I ordered the right ink last night from Amazon but had to go into the Archive of pre digital picture and find something to use.
I found this picture of trip we took to Cancun early December almost 25 years ago.    I thought it would be perfect because I knew I wanted a picture that I could use a heart with and this one was great with the kids and their Dad.
Instead of a pocket like it shows in the sketch I found this great PL card that would work with the picture.    The card is what made go with the black and white scheme for the papers and then the red heart I cut and one pop of color with the check paper in red worked well with the poinsettia tree that there are standing in front of.

Here is the sketch and check out all the details and Design Teams take on Make it Monday #70
from  "THE MEMORY NEST.
You still have till the end of the month to enter the weeks challenge or any of the ones from July and August for the summer grand prize.     I got them all completed, it was my goal to do it.    With being out of town for 8 days and then this week having my Dad and brother here, this is just my 2nd layout in two weeks.   But glad I stuck with it.

Back to School

It's that time of year again and getting back to school pictures of the grandkids.

First off the St. Louis grandkids have started school so they get the first layout.

I used Make It Monday Sketch #69 at  "THE MEMORY NEST"    All summer I've been keeping up with the week the sketch came out but I got behind this time.   I haven't scrapped in just over a week
so it was nice to sit down today and make a layout.   But admit I felt a little rusty on what to do first, so this layout is mixed with a lot of different ideas.

Here is the sketch and check out all the details at   "THE MEMORY NEST"     You have till the end of the month to enter all the summer sketches.

Cousins Together

This is a new way to make a layout in a couple of different ways.     I started the layout with the prompt this week at  "LASTING MEMORIES"       For the month of  August  all the challenges are
"Color Me Happy" theme.     For this week we are asking you to add to your layout an image you have colored or to actually color on your background.
I colored this big flower image from one of my adult coloring books and then fussy cut it and put it on my layout of my two granddaughters.   They might look alike but are cousins.

The second thing different for me was that this is probably the first layout I have ever made that I didn't use any patterned paper.     I just have the card stock background paper, my colored image, a card stock double matted picture and 3 strips of washi tape.

Go to  "LASTING MOMORIES"  and check out the details and what the rest of the Design Team made.   I know I'm excited to see what they did.

Our Fun Day

My grandkids were on vacation in Las Vegas and had a fun day at an Amusement place.    I wasn't sure how to scrap these pictures because they had this pink/purple hint to them.   No sure if there was a filter turned on the camera or what.     But then I saw the  Mood Board challenge for August at
"PICTURE THIS" and thought if I could find the right papers these pictures would work great.

I found these papers in a Mambi stack and I thought they were perfect with the colors of the mood board, I add the white flower as an embellishment as I thought it looked like the rosette in the woman's hair in the picture.

Next I had to find a sketch I might want to use.     The single page sketch for August at
"STICK IT DOWN"  was perfect because of just having the two pictures that I wanted to scrap.
So it all just worked out so perfectly with my pictures and also the two challenges.

Below are the links for both challenges so be sure and check them out.

"PICTURE THIS"

Every Family has a Story Welcome to Ours

"SCRAP-CHALLENGE-YOURSELF"    latest challenge #32 is an 'Art for Inspiration' with this
great picture.    Don't you just love it?

Of course you have to be sure and include a picture of yourself when making your layout.   Since I'm always the picture taker in the family this challenge always pushes me to be sure and include myself in some layouts.
When I first saw the challenge picture, my first thought went to walking along the mall in Washington DC when we were there in 2008 and the cherry blossoms were in bloom.   So I went back on my computer to those pictures but no pictures of me, just ones of my daughter and dad walking along the waterway with the cherry blossoms over the walkway.
So I just started looking deep into my photo album on my computer looking for pictures of my walking anywhere near water as that is what I wanted to pull form the inspiration picture and went back to 2005.   This time my brother was taking the pictures and I was in them.     I had never scrapped these pictures but finally this was my chance.   This was an afternoon we just took my brothers jeep out to some farm land he owns outside of Columbia, MO and just walked around, sometimes by the pond there and others up into the trees.
I chose the title for my layout because as my journaling says I love being with my family.   We have spent great time together, whether just in each others home or on the many vacations we have taken together.
So be sure and check out the link above and enter your layout in the challenge.

Having fun with Uncle Jason and Aunt Leslie

I'm going to see my daughter and son-in-law on Monday so I decided I better get a few more layouts made to take to her.    I don't think she would know what to do if I didn't walk in with new layouts in my hand.   :)     She and husband, my son and  2 grandkids and my brother and  some of his friends all met down in Arkansas for a camping trip.   I had obligations here so couldn't go.  But I've made
some layouts from the pictures they all took for my grandkids album but realized I had only made one for Leslie and Jason, so printed these pictures toady to use with the Sketch #110 at
"SKETCH & SCRAP"     Such a great sketch to work with, one that I'll save to use again as its so versatile.   The green flag paper is from Fancy Pants - Attwell collection.   The other 3 patterned papers are from the Echo Park-Wild Life collection.    I think they worked well together.

Here is the sketch and check out this challenge and the other 3 challenges throughout August here
at  "SKETCH & SCRAP"

PL card

I'm on the design team at "SKETCHES IN THYME PL STYLE" .     This was not my week for a reveal  but I had the perfect idea of what to do with this weeks sketch and wanted to work with it.

My husband is a physician and had retired but then decided to work part time with a government contract job doing intake physicals for new recruits in all branches of the service.    He works 2 or 3 days a week in Kansas City, but lately they have been calling him to travel to other cities where they
need help,  So in the last 3 weeks he has gone to Omaha for 2 days,  then the next week to Dallas for 3 days and yesterday they called and he left to work these last 3 days of the week in St. Louis.  Plus each of these weeks he worked on Monday in KC before they called him to travel.   So this part time job is getting close to full time.

So before he left yesterday afternoon we decided to go out for a big lunch so he didn't have to go out last night when he got to St. Louis and I used that picture to make this card for one of this weeks PL page cards.

I would love to see more of you that are interested in PL style cards to enter our weekly challenges.
Even if you don't do standard PL scrapping I've seen many layouts made with the PL sketches,  some with a picture, some for journaling, a title or just an embellishment on a regular scrapbook page
so please check out   "SKETCHES IN THYME PL STYLE"  and join in the fun and a chance to win a great monthly prize.

Summer Vacation

My step-grandson Bryce for the last couple of years has gone out to his Grandparents home in Las Vegas and stayed almost a month and spent time sight seeing and then drove back home to St. Louis with them in their RV to continue their sightseeing and vacation time.
This is pictures of them on a day trip from Vegas to Cornado Beach.
I thought the Make it Monday Sketch #68  at    "THE MEMORY NEST"  was perfect for these pictures.

I used papers from the Carta Bella Beach Day collection for everything but my card stock wave and the double card stock matting on the sun.      I got out my cricut cartridge  'Life's a Beach'  for the sun and my wave border.    I cut the sun at 5 inches and decided just the patterned paper didn't look right against my background paper, so I cut a blue sun at 5.25"  as a mat, but then just didn't like the blue so cut a yellow card stock sun at 5.5" and then put it all together.   I just traced the face cuts on the
sun with a black pen.     That title of Summer Vacation I cut from a strip from the collection and just inked the edges with blue so they would stand out some against the other paper behind the pictures.

Here is the sketch and check out all the details at  "THE MEMORY NEST"   they have had great sketches every week this summer and you have almost a full month left to enter, plus all the July sketches are still open to work with.

Out in St. Louis

I've had this picture of Bryce and Gibson for a couple of months.  But just hadn't gotten around to scrapping it.     So I thought I would give this newest sketch at   "LET''S GET SKETCHY" a try.
Not my usual style, but I'm so glad I tried it because I really like how it turned out.   Plus used up a variety of scraps I had.   Thats always a good thing.   :)

Here is the sketch for this week and check out the details and what the design team did with the

Kindergarten

I found this old picture last month and knew I would scrap it at sometime.     I got lucky this week because I have two challenges I can enter this layout in, so I worked on it this morning.

First off I used the "SCRAPBOOK CHALLENGES"  2016 SS sketch #1.    The sketch used a 8x10 picture and voila that is what this picture was.   So I knew it would be what I would use.    The sketch had a vertical picture on it but my horizontal one worked just fine with the sketch.

Then today at "LASTING MEMORIES"  they announced this challenge #305 to use Black and White and one other color so that is what I had in mind when I started looking for my papers.
I used an old pad from DCWV from 2011 to get my B&W and one color to used.   Added black and white card stock for matting and a black fabric flower and black alphas.    I journaled some on the back of the layout.    That is me on the 3rd row and #4 going left to right.

Check out the details with the links here.

Desert Dome

When you spend the day at the zoo you sure take a lot of pictures.
This is my second double page layout I made of our trip a week ago and I still have some more pictures that I would like to scrap.   Plus many more that I'll save but not scrap.    I mean really, who can't resist taking pictures of all those animals you see.
This layout is all about some of the sights inside the Desert Dome at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.   When  I was last there about 15 years ago with my kids were teenagers.   The Dome was a rainforest.    The desert dome was great, but I have to say from what I remember of the rainforest exhibit I liked it much better.   So I guess at some time there will be another exhibit there.    So always good to be able to go back to it.

"LET'S SCRAP"  always has great double page sketches so that is where I went to look when I was making this layout.    They didn't disappoint because the sketch from August 1st was great of
including a lot of the pictures from the Desert Dome.

Check out  "LET'S SCRAP"  and get all the details and see what the DT made.   The prize is a
$10 GC from any online scrappy store.

Vacation

I worked with the week one August sketch at  "LET'S GET SKETCHY"  right away.      I had this
picture of  Bryce and his maternal grandparents on vacation this summer and was just waiting for a sketch to use for it.    This one worked out fine.    I just found my own "semi" version of a starburst pattern for my background paper.

I added wood veneer pieces for my title and embellishments.

Here is the sketch and click    HERE    for all the details.

Royals vs Rangers Fans @ the Game

My son is a lifelong KC Royals fan after living all his life in Kansas City but then 4 years ago he moved to the Dallas area and his son then became a TX Rangers fan, even though he was born in KC.
So when the Royals came to Texas to play the Rangers, Jason got tickets to take Kai and a friend to the game.   The boys have on their Texas Rangers shirt and Jason is wearing his Royals shirt.
Sorry to say,  since I'm also a Royals fan, that the Rangers won the whole series.

My color combo for this layout came from the  July 3-Color Palette challenge from "THE STUDIO CHALLENGES"     I have the two shades of blue, some red and gray from the palette.
Next I used the August sketch at  "GRAND DIVA'S CREATIVE CORNER"   to make this layout.
I also used the This and That challenge at  "THROUGH THE EYES OF ROCHELLE SPEARS"
I used a border punch around 3 sides of my biggest piece of patterned paper.    I'm always pleased
when I complete the Scrappy Friends challenge.

"GRAND DIVA'S CREATIVE CORNER"

HENRY DOORLY ZOO

I lived in Omaha when my son was born, he turns 39 next month, so that tells you how long ago it was.    We use to go there a lot while I was pregnant but then moved when our son was 18 months old so I think he only went once.    We did go back for a visit from KC when both our kids were teenagers and now again I went last Saturday.     It has changed a lot over the 40 years and it is a
fantastic zoo.   If you live anywhere in the midwest and like zoos you should go for a visit.

This layout is going to work for 3 challenges, not to mention a prompt in my yahoo scrappy group.

First off I used the sketch at   "STICK IT DOWN"   (for my big title) I just printed the picture I took at the entrance to the zoo at 2.75x9")    then also used alpha sticker to fill in a space.

Next  "THE STUDIO CHALLENGES"   The prompt for the July 31st challenge is to use multiple photos on your layout.     I have 4 pictures on the left page and 5 on the right side page.

And then there is  "ANOTHER FREAKING SCRAPPY CHALLENGE"   Their prompt for August is to use a souvenir from a place or event on your layout.    I used the map of the zoo we got when we bought our tickets.

Check out all the links above for all three challenges and have a great time creating.

7 day forecast PL card

Here is my PL card to start this week.   Last week I posted about all the rain we had and now this week is suppose to be HOT.

Here is this weeks PL card sketch from     "SKETCHES IN THYME PL SYTLE"    I hope a lot
of you will play along with each weekly challenge in August.

And here is my completed PL page I used this card on.

Goodbye to Franzi

I went right to work on this layout, simply because my big triangle piece of patterned paper was already cut and sitting on my desk from some paper I had used last week.     Good thing I didn't put it away because it was the perfect colors for the layout.   I found some background paper that was perfect colorize and had a bit of a water wave look to it to go with the picture and then cut out the other two triangles out of Basic Grey Adrift collection and it all went together.

Now that I took the picture looks like I need to go back and move some of the alphas on the title to make it a little straighter.

This is a picture of Franzi and my grand daughters Avery and Dylan.    Then end of July was Franzi's last day as au-pair for the girls.   She was from Germany and the girls just loved her and will hated to see her go, they had a great year together.

The sketch is the first Make it Monday Sketch #67  for August from  "THE MEMORY NEST"
You have all the rest of the month to enter, plus the July weekly sketches are also still open to enter through the end of July.

Here is the sketch and check out all the details here at  "THE MEMORY NEST"

Boy or Girl ???

You might say I'm a bit excited about my daughter being pregnant.     She is only 12 weeks along and this is my 4th layout about the upcoming event.   I can only imagine how big that baby's album is going to be.   LOL

This is my reveal for THE   "SKETCHES IN THYME"   first week of August sketch.

Here is the sketch and click on the link above to get all the details and then check back every day this week to see what other design team members make.
