The Vaile Mansion

Yes I'm still making Christmas layouts.   I could do this year round.    This year after living in Kansas City probably 25 years of my adult life I finally made it to Vaile Mansion for the Christmas tour.
It was so beautiful.   Christmas trees decorated in every room, gorgeous wreaths and ornaments.
So this new double page sketch at "Scrap Much?!"   I picked my 4 favorite pics of trees there for this layout.
You can see the sketch below and read all the details on the challenge   HERE  at  "Scrap Much?!"
Will you be making Christmas layout in February or what?    Can't wait to see your entry.

Buying Foo Fighter Tickets

Not to often do I just use card stock for a layout but for this one I did.     Just seemed like it didn't need anything but color, no patterns or anything.

The latest challenge at "Scrapping 4 Fun"  is #36 - Country Flag.   There are DT members and entries here from many countries.    So below is an image of the USA flag.   Red, White and Blue are our colors and that is what I used in my layout.    You can see all the details HERE.

S is for Sledding

The last couple of days I've been scrapping some old pictures.   I had an old photo album out and this is from the winter of 1979.   It doesn't look like a really deep snow but Jason had his Dad out in both the front and back yard and pushing him down the little hill in the yard and then pulling him back up.
Jason was just a 2 yrs and 3 months old here and you can see I sent him out totally bundled up.
I think that must have been my scarf wrapped around him.   Poor kid probably could barely see and I'm sure he couldn't move well with as much bundling as I had him in.

I used the sketch #112 at "Let's Capture Our Memories"  I loved the overlapping of the pictures in it and worked great from my pics as they weren't real close up so I had a lot of empty space on the pics and could lay the pictures out easily with the sketch.

You can see this sketch below and go  HERE  to see all the details of this challenge  at

Thanksgiving Helper

It's been a great month and I've gotten a lot of scrapping done, and here is my last reveal for the  "Lasting Memories" GDT.      I hope you all have enjoyed all the challenges this month as I have.
The food theme has been great.    If you have ever seen my PL pages you would know that I always have food pictures.    So finishing up the month with one more food theme.   Here is my layout.
The theme is  "Food Selfies"   That is me and my granddaughter Mylan in these pictures.   She was such a big help at Thanksgiving this last year.   She helped me cut the celery for the stuffing, she mixed the filling for the devil eggs and she loved rolling all the little triangles to make the crescent rolls.   She was very intense on getting them all done just right.

Just click HERE for all the info on week 4's challenge.    Hope you have had a great month scrapping here at "Lasting Memories" like I have.

BRRRR - Let it Snow

Since I had some more pictures of the grandkids in St. Louis after their snow last week I thought I would make a layout of Bryce and Gibson as I already made one of pictures of Addison.

I rotated the sketch for DT - B  at "Scrap Much?!" to go with my pictures.   I've had these winter papers for ever and glad I got to use them.    I had made the BRRRR diecut last month for a swap and I had saved the Let It Snow puzzle pieces from a swap last year.   So I really used a lot of different saved papers and elements.

Check out the details of this challenge HERE and see what the Design Team did.
I added the sketch below.

Naughty or Nice

Yesterday I used the single page sketch at "Stick It Down" for a Christmas layout from pics of my son back in 1979 (wow, that was a long time ago) and I discovered I had a lot other pictures yet to be scrapped from that Christmas.   So last night I used the double page sketch from "Stick It Down" and made this layout using the same collection of papers..     I really liked being able to journal on the Naughty and Nice paper columns and then use some of it for my title too.   I just circled the Nice as my little Jason was certainly Nice that Christmas.    You can see the sketch below and then be sure and check out all the details for the challenge at "Stick It Down"    HERE.

HO HO HO

It's throwback scrapping time.   I found some pictures from Christmas 1979 that I hadn't scrapped yet so I wanted to fill in that year in my Christmas albums.    When I saw the single page sketch at "Stick It Down"  I thought about a collection of holiday papers that I hadn't used a lot of because I never know what to do with a paper that has a single big picture on it.   So I pulled out the Fancy Pants - St. Nick collection and found the paper I had in mind to go with this sketch.    My picture I used is of my son at age 2 opening his gifts that were in his stocking left by Santa so I thought this patterned paper was perfect.    Then I added my own bling HO HO HO title and some stocking stickers by my journaling and all done, with my single matted picture and another piece of paper from the collection that I also matted.    After looking at some of the other pages I did of 1979 Christmas pictures I'm thinking I might go back and redo them.  "Stick It Down" also has a double page sketch for February so hopefully it will work for those pictures.     You can see the single page sketch below and get all the details  HERE.

MAUI Views

The guys (Dad, Bruce, Jason and Zack)  sent back so many beautiful pictures of the sights they were seeing in Maui.    When I saw the challenge at "Picture This" was to use 3 pictures and use them in a vertical placement, I thought that would be perfect to showcase some of the pictures I had.      I sure wish I had been there with everyone and saw all this in person.   It does look beautiful.

So get out 3 favorite pictures and check out this challenge.  It's sure a fun one to do.
You can get all the details   HERE   and see the what the DT team did.

Best Buds

One of Kai's best buddies is Aiden but he lives in California so they only get to see each other at best a couple of times a year.   Aidan's family made a trip to Dallas to visit everyone a week ago.
I just love this picture of the two of them.
I really did some new easy techniques for this one.    First off I used Sketch #140 at "Sketches in Thyme"    The sketch was great but when I was looking at it I saw where I have the rectangle of pale blue card stock as a picture frame in the background of the layout.  So I used washi tape around it to make it look more 'frame like' on my layout.

I'm going to also enter this layout in another challenge.    At "Scrap It Girl" the February challenge is a recipe challenge and the recipe is use blue and arrows.     I have lots of shades of blues in this layout   Even though it looks too dark in this picture I started with navy blue cards stock and then there are different shade of blue on all the patterned papers and even blue washi tape.   I have one fussy cut arrow on the layout too.

Check out all the details  HERE for the "Sketches in Thyme" challenge and you can see below this great sketch that Rochelle Spears made.   I just love her sketches.

For the recipe challenge at "Scrap It Girl" check out all the details   HERE.

Taking in the Sights

Another layout from the guys trip to Maui.   I'm not sure where this was taken, but it seems like during the walking around and sightseeing that Dad was intrigued by these trees and looking at the remains of the cut off limbs.  He was probably counting rings to see the age.

For this layout I used the sketch at "Sketch N Scrap" it was sketch #75.   I wasn't sure when I saw the circles on it but I'm glad I went ahead and cut them out.  I really think they stand out against the solid card stock.   I went only with the colors of greens and browns to go with the landscape.
'"Sketch N Scrap" has a great prize of some Valentine flair buttons this month.   See the sketch below and the details   HERE.

I caught a blue runner

My son, my dad, my brother and my nephew went on guys vacation to Maui for 10 days this month.
My son who would rather fish than eat went out on 2 different charters, this one was one he took their 2nd full day there.   He caught several fish including this Blue Runner.   I'm making a small album of their trip to give to him so wanted to include this picture for sure.

I used the sketch from Feb. 15th at "Stuck?!Sketches" I really liked that I got to use a variety of patterns on it but still highlight the picture well.     They have a couple of great prizes this month so be sure and check out the details  HERE.     The sketch is below too.

Showing Papa

I'm on the DT - B at Scrap Much?! but when I saw this sketch for DT - A  I wanted to give it a try.
Of course I saw the doily in the sketch and knew I had some red paper doilies so from there my mind went to Christmas.   I had probably 6 or 7 pictures of Mylan and Dad looking at this little toy but couldn't find 2 vertical pics that I liked as much as this horizontal one so decided to go this way with the sketch.     You can see the sketch below and  HERE  is the link to the challenge at "Scrap Much?!"

I also want to enter this layout at "Red Carpet Studios"  the challenge this week is  #91 - My Fair Lady.   You need to create a girly project and use lots of layers.   This picture might also have my Dad in it, but it also of my granddaughter Mylan and she is the love of Papa's life and she loves spending every moment possible with him and sharing all she does with him, like showing him just how this little stocking stuffer toy worked at Christmas time.  :)    Check out the challenge HERE.

More & More

I just love shopping for Christmas gifts for my family and even better I love to wrap them and make big pretty bows for all of them.    So when I saw the sketch #34 at "The Memory Nest" I immediately thought about the pictures that I had taken of the stacks of gifts I had laid out to wrap over one weekend.   And also seeing the sketch I knew what title I would use too.     There are so many ways to go with this sketch and I'm sure I'll come up with other ways and use it again.

See the sketch below and check out the details  HERE.

Turkey Day

It's now time for my reveal as Guest Designer at "Lasting Memories" for week number 3.
This week we had a theme and a sketch to use.   It was a simple theme, just anything food related because this whole month is all about food at "Lasting Memories".  I cut my banner triangles in the green patterned paper and then matted them in the same paper as the 1 12" strip on the layout and had out my twine to put it all together.   But I was trying to decide on my title.  I didn't want to make it long and do Thanksgiving and I didn't want 2 lines for Turkey Day and was just stuck.   Went to look in my collection of alphas to see what I could used that wasn't going to be to big and go ahead and do one or the other of the titles.   Then I saw these banner alphas that I had not used yet.  PERFECT as they would fit just right on top of the banners I made and gave it a little more dimension then.
So did Turkey that way and just added Thickers for Day and I had my title.   So glad it all worked out this way.

So see the sketch for this weeks challenge and check out all details  HERE.
Hope to see lots of entries this week at "Lasting Memories".

So Pretty

It's time Design Team A at "Scrap Much" single page reveal.    I loved the sketch for this week as I got to bring out all the bling.     Even though my granddaughter, Mylan, is not a girly girl, I thought the bling would go great with this picture of her with her new shorter haircut.
I just love that smiling face of hers.

I hope to see a lot of you joining into the sketch this week and see all your layouts.

You can see the sketch below and check out the details  HERE at "Scrap Much"

Fajitas

I just love this sketch #99 at "My Scraps and More" and I'm sure I'll be using it again.   The layout went together so easily.    I used a picture I got of my nephew Zach and my Dad while we were having Fajitas at a Mexican restaurant the day after Thanksgiving.   We were ready for a change from turkey.     I have the sketch below and check out the details  HERE.    "My Scraps and More" always have awesome sketches on their blog every other Friday so be sure and join the fun.

WRONG you are really 32

I just had to scrap this picture of my daughter.   Her boyfriend (now husband) took this picture on her birthday last year.   I had sent her these candle numbers for her b'day cake and she reversed them on the cake box to say she was only 23.   Nice try Leslie.

I used the January sketch  at "My Creative Sketches"  Since I had so many colors in the back ground paper, I just pulled some of the colors from the circles and made everything else with those colors in card stock.    The challenge closes on Feb. 14th.   So I'm glad I got it made.  I really enjoyed the sketch.    I've added the sketch below and check out the details   HERE.

Happy Playtime

This picture has been sitting on my desk for probably 6 months now and finally I'm scrapping it.
I saw the sketch at  "The Memory Nest"  sketch #33 and decided to get busy and finally scrap the picture.   Gibson and Addisyn play so well together and they always are so happy.
I'm also going to enter this layout in a SOS challenge in one of the yahoo groups I'm in.
It's a word challenge --- SPRING -- I have S = stars,  P = Patterned Paper,  R = Ribbon,  I =  Inking,
N = Naked Chipboard, G = Green.

See the sketch below and check out the challenge details at "The Memory Nest"    HERE,   they have a weekly sketch all month long that you can make and enter.   So hope to see some of you play along.

Making The Turkey

This week I'm working on all my Thanksgiving layouts from 2014.  I got two others made in the last couple of days and now this one.    When I saw the Week 2 sketch at "Let's Get Sketchy" and that it had 4 pictures in it, I immediately thought of using "turkey prep" pictures.   For several years now its been my son Jason that is in charge of the turkey for both Thanksgiving and Christmas and he deep fries it.   Everyone just love it.  He starts with injecting a butter cajun marinade and then covering the outside with a dry rub of cajun seasoning.   I highly recommend it.

I have a copy of the sketch from "Let's Get Sketchy" below and check out all the details  HERE.

Kai - Christmas 2014

I caught this picture of Kai opening a book that was in his stocking.  Not sure where he is looking but I think its over in the direction of where Papa was sitting so he must be looking to see what was also in Papa's stocking.   I love that we have kept the tradition for decades for even all the adults to get stockings filled by Santa.

I used the Feb 1st sketch at "The Studio Challenges"   I really liked that I got to use a lot of different patterns of paper for the layout.   I used mostly papers from the Authentique - Jolly  collection and also the stickers for embellishments from that collection,  the two pieces of red paper were from another Christmas collection but not sure what it was as was just in my scrap drawer.
If you know my style I usually do a lot of matting on my papers and pictures, but this time left the picture as is and used either red or green ink around the edges of the different papers.

Be sure and check out the challenge at "The Studio Challenges"   HERE  and I have added the  sketch below for you to see.

YUMMY

Now tell me, who wouldn't be saying "YUMMY" looking at these two desserts?    I know both of us were.   Even though we were stuffed from our dinner, when you have coupons for free desserts and they say they have both chocolate cake and raspberry topped cheesecake, we didn't have to listen to anything else.   They hit is with both our favorites.   In fact as you can see we both had a  bite before I remembered I wanted to take a picture.

The February 8th challenge at "LASTING MEMORIES" is 'Sweet As Can Be' and these were sweet, sweet, sweet.    I would say would save room for dessert the next time we go back to eat here, but I know we won't.   But.....there is always to go boxes so we can have it later.

Check out this great challenge   HERE  and share your  'Sweet As Can Be'  layout at
"LASTING MEMORIES"

No Peeking

Yes, I still have Christmas layouts to make, for that matter I have Thanksgiving layouts left to make too.    When I saw this set #74 at "Sketch-N-Scrap" the first of the month, I thought it would look great using Christmas papers.    I used an old collection I had,  Authentique's - Jolly collection.

I used one of the stickers that was with the collection for the title and just matted it in red and then put on a green square to make it stand out a little more.   Another sticker for another embellishment.
Then I decided to get a little more green in the layout, I cut down the patterned paper some and centered it on some green card stock that matched the green I did some of the matting on.
It's hard to see in the picture but I decided to add some journaling with a gold gel pen across top left and bottom right on the green card stock.

Be sure and check out all the details of the challenge at "Sketch-N-Scrap"    HERE  and you
can see the sketch below.

Life Is Good

Another wedding layout.   This was a picture taken at the reception.  Leslie's grandfather is probably her most favorite person in the whole world.   So of course even with just a month before his 93rd birthday there is no way he would miss it.    Turns out at the reception he was the life of the party,  all the family was not surprised, but that's him, danced with everyone and was with the last group to leave.

I used the sketch at "Stuck On U Sketches"   I wanted something that would really highlight the photograph and one that I could print as a 5x7 and really shine on the sketch.   This sketch was perfect.    Check out all the details  HERE  and see the sketch below.

KC BBQ

I was so honored when I was asked to be the Guest Designer at "Lasting Memories" for the month of February.   This February 1st challenge is 'Favorite Recipe or Food'.   We we live in Kansas City and when you live here and don't say BBQ is your favorite you might be asked to leave.  In fact last week we at lunch at one BBQ place and then dinner 4 nights later at another place.   Both happen to be our favorites.  But there are many more than the two and we have tried a lot of them.   This was our dinner at Famous Daves for their all you can eat ribs night.   Arthur ordered that but I only ordered the half slab and couldn't eat that last rib.  But I sure gave it a valiant effort.
There is no sketch for this challenge, so make your layout anyway you want and just feature your favorite food or recipe.   Check out all the details   HERE   at "Lasting Memories"
