Remembering Dad

On Friday, August 12th it will be two years since my Dad passed away.   He was 97 years old and had a wonderful life.    He was 97 years old and had a wonderful life, but we still wanted more time with him.   He was the caregiver for my Mom for 10 years before she passed in early 2005.   After that we wanted to make sure he got to enjoy a fuller life after giving up their traveling to care for her.  He traveled with my brother and I and other trips with us and his grandkids.   There were trips to Australia, to London, to Mount Rushmore, to Hawaii, to Mackinaw Island,  to DC, to Gettysburg to Iowa to the Field of Dreams and Coopertown Baseball Hall of Fame.    All places we wanted to take him to that he hadn't been to or as in Hawaii where he hadn't been in many years and where he and Mom had traveled and we also went back to Boyne Mountain, MI where he and Mom and friends spent a winter vacation skiing for many years.

He always loved his 4 grandkids so much but once there started to be great grandkids he became the Papa that was loved by everyone.    He was the heart of the family and glue that kept us all together.   He will never be forgotten by any of us and we always will share all the wonderful memories we had with him.

When I saw what the challenge was for August at  "SCRAP-CHALLENGE-YOURSELF"   I knew I had to make a special layout remembering my Dad.    I've made so many layouts in the past about times with Dad trips and holidays but this is the first one I have made "In Memory" of him.     You are missed Dad.

  1. Oh Barb, what a beautiful tribute to your dad. I LOVE your heartfelt, hand-written journaling and the awesome memories your wrote about him here. And I especially like all of the wonderful photos- each one has a special memory. You created a touching (and gorgeous!) layout - I love the grid pattern and the way you incorporated so many photos, beautifully!!!! Just from this, I can tell your dad was a special man. Thank you so much for joining us at Challenge YOUrself this month for the "tough times" challenge. Sending hugs.
